Event Details

Even if you have take another breastfeeding class, this class will specifically address what birth and postpartum doulas need to know to assist clients with breastfeeding. The class will include a quick review of breastfeeding basics as well as advanced techniques and information that will help you better serve the women and babies that you assist.

 

PRE-REQUISITE: Attendees must read The Ultimate Breastfeeding Book of Answers by Jack Newman, and Teresa Pitman prior to attending this class.



Topics for this class include:

  • Breastfeeding as a historical norm.
  • How to assist mom in learning what a good latch looks like, and how correct a poor latch
  • Positioning for challenging situations
  • Solving breastfeeding chalenges within your scope of practice
  • Knowing when to suggest a referral to an IBCLC or doctor
  • Milk supply issues
  • Three levels of listening as a doula
  • And much much more

The early registration period will end on September 1st, with a discount available to members of the Central Texas Birth Network. General registration will end on September 26th. Location will be determined by class size.

This class meets the breastfeeding requirement for Maternity Wise doula certification.

We are in the process applying for DONA approval and possible CEUs.

 

About the Instructor:

Ryka George, CD(DONA) PCD(DONA), has been assisting mothers and babies with breastfeeding since 1996 when her first born was 2.5 years old. In January of 2002 she started her company The Mothering Way and specialized in postpartum care. The Mothering Way now provides both birth and postpartum care services.
